WoahI’m reading up on the back-story of Ikana Canyon, the final zone of Majora’s Mask, and suddenly came upon a startling hypothesis. We know that the time of the Ikana Kingdom was long ago, and that it ended in some sort of brutal, violent catastrophy. What if the Ikana Kingdom was betrayed by the Hylians? The king says “Believing in your friends and embracing that belief by forgiving failure… These feelings have vanished from our hearts.” Could Ikana and Hyrule been united against some tremendous force that eventually wiped Ikana out? They could have been relying on Hyrule to defend them, but that faith was repaid with death. Imagine if Ikana were the Grey Wardens of Dragon Age Origins—what if they engaged in a battle trusting that Hyrule would rush in when needed. Well, what if, like Loghain, Hyrule never came? What if maybe Hyrule instead allied with that other force, leading Ikana into the slaughter like Walder Frey did the Starks? Jesus!
I miss when kids games had this much subtext in them.
